“This gift fund is dedicated to my parents. The story of a “spoonful of peas” came from them. My father spent time in a concentration camp during World War II. He saved the lives of others by sharing a few extra peas to those suffering the most.
My mother saved the spoon that my dad used to survive. It also held the peas that he gave to others.
Nurses give their ‘peas’ to patients every hour of every day, by providing much needed compassion, care, comfort and support. This gift is to honor the nurses who go that extra mile and know that one small gesture, like one small spoonful of peas, can make all the difference in the world to a patient in need.”
